I have been attempting to learn Punjabi on a off in my spare time for a
couple of years now. My progress has been quite slow as I being English and
working amoung English speakers I have had little chance to practice
conversation. After looking at your web site and your address I hoped that
as I travel to Birmingham at least twice a month there might be some way I
could become involved with your organisation and get the conversational
practice I need to fulfil my ambition.
I am a ICT teacher, trained mechanic and holder of lorry licences so perhaps
your Gurdwara could put me to good use occasionally?

Dear All,

I was quite insulted by Professor Khushwant Singh's commonest about Punjabi being limited. Firstly I too write in English (presently writing a novel about Sikhs). Secondly, he fails to take one important factor into consideration. English developed over thousands of years and absorbed words from other languages where it had none. Therefore it is legitimate for Punjabi to borrow words from other languages. He also fails to consider that animals of ones own country are easier to describe. Many words are just invented. Thus as a challenge to him I have composed a list of new words to describe and name animals and creatures not familiar to the Punjab. I am looking for someone out there that will be willing to publish these.
